Walked over to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine just before 5:45 to check on the red-tailed hawks. No sign of them of them when I arrived, but it seemed like a short walk into Morningside Park was appropriate before leaving. No hawks or turkeys were about by the dog run. Heading back south by the pond, this new arrival was stalking about the pond.
The NYC Bird Report indicates that great egrets have been seen in Central Park for a couple weeks now, but this is the first I've seen in Morningside this year.
He/she moved about the pond quite a bit, first in the north, then a brief stop in the middle island, then to the rocks on the south.
Some of the usual folks were about, also.
I headed back up to Morningside Drive after 6:10. Still no sign of the hawks. Exit.
